Ethical Issues & Decision Making

This is a unique
course offered to Probation and Correctional staff. This course will examine
values, ethical decision-making, and ethical behavior. This course will also
discuss leadership issues and how an “agency culture” can lead to a scandal,
such as the LAPD "Rampart Scandal". The incremental steps and
specific cases of arrests, shootings, and incidents that led to the corruption,
the downfall and aftermath of "Rampart" will be examined. The
Instructor will discuss the leadership insights and lessons learned to impact,
deter and deal with potential corruption. A portion of this course will be
presented by LAPD retired Captain Richard Meraz. He was the Commanding Officer
of the LAPD Rampart Division during the "Rampart Scandal".
